A delegation from the Environmental Research Center visits the Ministry of Migration and Displacement to activate joint scientific cooperation

 

A delegation from the Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology, including Dr. Abbas Jawad Kazim, Head of the Sustainable Development Department, Dr. Mu'ayyad Nasir Muslim, and Assistant Lecturer Abdul Aziz Ahmed Hamad, visited the Ministry of Migration and Displacement within the framework of enhancing joint scientific cooperation and implementing sustainable development goals. They met with the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Karim Al-Nouri, and in the presence of the Head of the Training and Development Department at the Ministry, Mr. Muhammad Kasi.

The meeting focused on activating the provisions of the minutes of scientific cooperation signed between the University of Technology and the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, which aims to support joint efforts in achieving sustainable development goals. The two parties discussed plans to develop projects that contribute to improving the conditions of the displaced and displaced, while emphasizing the importance of building the capacities of the Ministry's cadres in the fields of training and scientific research.

Dr. Abbas Jawad Kazim pointed out the importance of investing in these partnerships to enhance social and economic sustainability, through initiatives based on modern research and technologies. For his part, Dr. Karim Al-Nouri expressed the ministry's readiness to support and implement joint projects, appreciating the role of the University of Technology in providing state institutions with knowledge and expertise.

The two parties agreed to hold a workshop organized by the Environmental Research Center on the goals of sustainable development and the mechanisms for achieving them within the ministry. With the participation of an elite group of decision-makers and interested parties from within the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, with the aim of enhancing awareness of the goals of sustainable development within Iraqi state institutions.

Visitors from China Oil Company at the Environmental Research Center

 

A delegation from China Oil HBP visited the Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology and met with Professor Dr. Zainab Bahaa Mohamed, Director of the Center. On site tour for all the laboratories in the center is made by the visitors and a description about the lab tests that can be performed is also provided. This event came on the sidelines of the center's policy to open the horizon of cooperation with private companies and government departments.

Participation in the launch of the comprehensive access to sustainable water and sanitation services program in Iraq


Professor Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, Director of the Environmental Research Center, participated in the launch of the comprehensive access to sustainable water and sanitation services program in Iraq, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development and will be implemented by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Housing.
The doctor spoke about the projects that were implemented at the University of Technology by the United Nations Children's Fund, including the wastewater treatment plant, which is considered one of the sustainable projects that the university aims to achieve, as well as the sustainable garden project with an area of ​​1200 square meters. At the end of the talk, the doctor thanked all those in charge of the programs that have been and will be implemented in Iraq in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

A scientific visit for the Environmental Research Center

The Department of Materials Engineering organized a scientific visit for 20 students (fourth year-morning study) to the Environmental Research Center (ERC) on Sunday, 26/11/2024. This visit was supervised by Prof. Dr. Nevin Gamal, Ass. Prof. Aseel Mahmoud and Ass. Lect. Nizar Jabbar.
The Head of the Department of Environmental Pollution (Lect. Dr. Mukheled Amer Al-Sameraiy) welcomed the attendees in the department. He gave an introductory brief for the establishment of the ERC, the administrative structure and the tasks and duties carried out by the ERC. Then he stated that the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory and the Soil and Water Laboratory obtained an accreditation certificate (TL 012) from the Iraqi Accreditation Authority (IQAS)-Laboratory Accreditation Department-Ministry of Planning under the specification (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) in the field of chemical testing and is now on its way to renewal. After that the attendees moved to the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory. He talked about the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) and the importance of this device in investigating and analyzing a wide range of heavy metals in the soil and water. In addition, other devices in the lab were covered in his speech.
After that, the attendees moved to the soil and water laboratory and he talked about the nature of this lab in carrying out the extent range of physiochemical properties in soil and water. Some questions and inquiries issued by the students were replied by Lect. Iman Shaker Awad-research lecturer at the ERC.
Finally, the attendees expressed their great admiration for what they saw and heard. They acknowledged the department and the ERC. Before leaving, a group of commemorative photos were taken to document this.

The event is organized based on cooperative framework between Environmental Research Center and Continuous Learning Center at the University of Technology.
